Shiv Sena demands government regulation of medical profession and private hospitals
Pune : Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) leader Anand Goyal highlighted his concerns on Sunday, over the commercialization of the medical field, stating that it has transformed from a service into a business which is burdening on poor patients.
Goyal demanded from both central and state governments to impose stricter regulations on the medical profession and private hospitals.
He pointed out that the management of private and charitable hospitals is now operating in a manner even worse than government-run hospitals. The lack of control over the fees charged by doctors in private hospitals outpatient departments, where charges can range from 200 to 2,000 rupees, with no clear guidelines in place. He urged the government should set a fixed these fees.
Goyal also highlighted the private hospitals are meant to serve charitable purposes. However, they fail to provide information about government schemes like the Mahatma Phule Yojana, Shahari Garib Yojana, and the Chief MinisterтАЩs Relief Fund, which could help patients. Hospital should display information about these schemes prominently, as well as details about available beds and the number of patients currently being treated. This information should be updated regularly and shared with the patients’ families through hospital websites and notice boards.
Additionally, Doctors often work at multiple private hospitals while also running their own private practices. Goyal pointed out that this leads to scheduling conflicts, causing inconvenience and unnecessary suffering for patients. Government intervention to regulate doctors who practice in multiple hospitals, ensuring better management of their time and duties is necessary added Goyal.
