Major Blow to Shiv Sena (UBT) as Deputy Leader Anand Goyal Joins Shinde Faction
Mumbai: In a significant political shift, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) suffered a major setback as party deputy leader Anand Goyal switched allegiance to the Shiv Sena faction led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Goyal formally joined the Shinde group on Thursday in Mumbai, in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Dr. Neelam Gorhe.
Goyal’s departure, along with key office bearers from Pune’s Vadgaonsheri, Kasba, and Kothrud constituencies, marks a crucial loss for the UBT faction. Among those who resigned from UBT and joined the Shinde camp was Balasaheb Malusare from the Kasba Assembly segment. The induction ceremony took place in Mumbai, attended by prominent leaders of the Shiv Sena (Shinde group).
Addressing the media, Goyal expressed his disappointment with the functioning of the Uddhav-led faction. “I have served in the Shiv Sena (UBT) for several years, rising through the ranks from an ordinary Shiv Sainik to the position of deputy leader. Despite my dedication, senior leaders have continuously neglected Pune city, which has hindered developmental progress. Moreover, the hard work of party workers has gone unrecognized,” he stated.
Citing these reasons, Goyal, along with his supporters, chose to align with the Shinde faction. He emphasized his commitment to working towards the city’s development and ensuring that progress reaches the grassroots level. “Under the leadership of Eknath Shinde, I am confident that we will be able to contribute effectively to the city’s growth,” he added.
